You are so right on this. It is better to have it on hand than money physically. In this manner, you can protect yourself. It is also good to cross-cheque so that no one can in-cash aside from a person named in it.

I am sorry to hear this. It happens also when the check is a post-dated one. They might run away if deceiving people is their intention. We experienced this before.
