I agree with you. I had given some freebies to the customers who ordered and bought of my items online. They did not come back despite having these freebies received from me.
things like that actually happens in business. One thing you need to understand whenever you are doing such thing is that not all of them will come back even if you give them freebies. that is why you shouldn't do that at the detriment of your profit.

The goods being given away as free gifts may be devalued
It's an expensive model of business promotion
The disadvantage is that you may not get potential customers. They may just patronize you while the giveaway lasts

Though do giveaway is a good way to attract new customers but if it is too much it can affect the business finance. And make you not to focus well on other marketing strategies

The giveaway may just give your clients interest in bringing in new people but if you fail in the area of improving your quality, the customers may leave when you end your giveaway

Once you'll give something extra to your customers like giveaways, then they may become habitual of it, next time they will ask for it again and once you'll stop it then they will stop purchasing from your shop.

Doing giveaways is a good ideas to draw new customers but it is essential to look into improving your product quality and developing a good marketing strategy. All these may not be done well if you concentrate so much on giveaway

There is what we call brand loyalty. I have seen people that would come and benefit from the giveaway and return back to the brand they are loyal to after the giveaway. My friend started patronizing a particular business because the owner needed a contractor. He was given the contract, executed it and went back to the brand he used to patronize. Brand loyalty can't be bought with giveaways.

Yeah, feedbacks and good reviews help a business so much especially if it is an online business. Even some offline businesses also have reviews online.

Giveaways are not business or sales strategy because they are not sustainable. It is a strategy for brand recognition. If a new business enters an industry, it can do giveaways to attract people's attention to the business.
