It is always very frustrating when official information are leaked from an insider in the company which puts the company in a very bad position and I believe that this is something that should be taken very seriously.

Companies who are really after the security of information should have a backup for all their data
Convert all your information to soft cooy and encrypt them. By so doing, you have restricted access to it which could have led to improper handling and loss.
The number of persons given access to these information should be reduced, meaning only trusted persons in the business setup should have access to sensitive information. Tight security should be placed to avoid easy hack.
I believe that as far as the information is held in paper, there are high chances of it leaking. The best bet is encryption of the information.
