I often hear people use wisdom and smartness interchangeably but I know that the two can't be exactly the same.

What are the core things that distinctly define wisdom and smartness? What makes a person smart and what makes a person wise?

Being wise is having a deep understanding of the world and humanity to make sound decisions. Being smart is the ability to learn and acquire knowledge.

I think smart and wise are different aspects of intelligence. Smart refers to quick-witted intelligence which can be applied o practical situation, such as you can learn things quickly and handle a challenging situation properly. Wise may refer to good judgement based on knowledge, experience and sensibility.

Over here we tend to define it like this. Bring smart is having knowledge about a particular thing but having wisdom is applying this knowledge.
