What was the main purpose for your marriage?

I don't know if I want marriage. I don't know if I can sustain it. Marriage is one of the things that scares me to my bone marrows.
I'm not married yet. However, for many people, the main purpose of marriage varies. Some view it as a commitment to love and support each other, while others see it as a partnership for building a family or sharing a life together.
Men generally marry because they want to raise kids with one woman. If not for children, why would a man want marriage? Companionship? We get that everyday from our league of friends.
Purpose of marriage and the ideas around marriage will vary from person to person. Our culture and upbringing has a lot to contribute there. We got married young. I was just 23. I didn't put much thought to it. It was an arranged marriage though I knew him very well as a friend. I entered the relationship with a complete ignorance but after 23 years, I can undoubtedly say that this was the most beautiful thing to happen.
I feel that there was an evolutionary need for society along with the biological need for this institution of marriage to come in the human society. Propagation of own's own kind is a very strong desire in any organism including human beings. Yes, Human intellectuality has greater power than only the natural instincts. Marriage was created as a powerful institution to have a streamlined civil society.
That is really everything that marriage is all about. To give companionship to people and they share their lives.
I am not married. I think most people who are married want to share their life with his/her loved one. Some want to raise a family and have kids.
I am not married yet, but marriage is about spending the rest of your life with the person you love. No matter what happens, you stick together; the most important thing is God blesses it.
