My high school sweetheart is engaged to someone. I am just left with thoughts of what would have been.

I am sorry for hearing this. I am sure that you were devastated when it did happen with your school sweetheart. I had mine and do not know what went wrong why we were separated. All I know is that we were so immature way back then.
