There is a power struggle between the architect and the civil engineer about who should supervise a building project. The architect feels he should do it because he designed the building. The civil engineer claims he is the one that understands the structural interpretation of the building.

I stand with the civil engineer. Who do you stand with?

The civil engineer should supervise the building because he's experienced and can make critical decisions. The know how to make sure buildings follow the architecture pattern.

The people-in-charge are those who are involved with the projects. They could be architects, engineers, and the like.
I think the architects duty is to draw the plan of the house. The civil engineer takes charge of the building to make sure it's like the drawing of the architect.

The civil engineer is the right choice, but not everyone can afford to pay them their fees. If it's a large scale building that will house many people at a time, it's best to go for all the best products and services.

Both have their role to play, there is no doubt about that but the architect draws the plan but it is the engineer who should be on site more to supervise everything.

The issue is that architects in my country do feel entitled to build since they came up with the plan. So many of them are structural engineer through trial and error.

Sir you captured the real essence of the situation. The architect feels that they understand that building more than anyone else because they are the ones that did the plan. I would even pick a building technologist to build my structure over an architect.

Yes it's unprofessional fir architects to take over building because they feel entitled to it. Most people become civil engineers just because they've seen or they've tried it.

in my understanding, architect designs on paper, and engineer designs in reality. Therefore, I believe engineers should supervise the construction.

It is Civil Engineer's responsibility to supervise construction of a building, architect's responsibility is design.

It depends on the type of project. If the project is big project, there is need to have a team of supervisors which consists of engineers and architects. In most government projects, there is always a team of experts that specialize in supervising a project.

I believe that the civil engineer is more suited to supervise a construction project. The architect should just focus on the design. The engineer should interprete the design.
