A strong filing and information retrieval system is vital for a lot of record keeping, and even though computers are frequently used, a paper trail is still required. It sounds like an old-fashioned way but is still an effective one to use.

I agree with you. Digital records are convenient but having a physical paper trail can provide an additional layer of security and reliability.
Instead of having a paper trail, I backup whatever information in multiple drives. If that is not secure enough, then nothing else is secure..
Honestly speaking, I can't work in an organization that still relies on papers for their operations and record keeping. Every business should have digital infrastructure to run the business. Paper trail makes work boring and stressful.
