Why is firewood business still lucrative in Africa?

The reverse seems to be the case. In Africa, people selling firewood are still thriving and making good money off it.

What could have been the cause of this persistent of firewood business?

I think it is cheaper than gas. A 200 naira worth of firewood should cook something that a 1kg gas cannot cook. I have experimented it before.

The high cost of gas or electric cooker is beyond the reach of ordinary people. To ameliorate the hardship, many resort to using firewood. At least, it is cheaper than gas or kerosene.

You can't use gas cooker to cook for an occasion. You might have to bring the gas station. Using firewood is very cheap to cook for an occasion. That is why it is still lucrative.

People still make use of firewood because it is cheaper, the cost of gas and kerosene is becoming something else these days, while in rural areas, they have easy access to firewood than anything else.

Firewood selling business used to be in my grandmother's business when she was alive and she was making good money from it because all in our town purchase firewood from her.

It still is my grand mom's village. My grand mom travels every week to go buy firewood and load it in a big pick up van to the house.

I also feel bad for some African territories that they are having problems as mentioned. I do believe that a good governance can uplift them from being in this situation. Would you agree?

Yes so true but people in the country side this time cook food using a rice cooker.Firewood is also not easy to find in rural areas unless go to far places where they can find woods. There are many educated people in rural areas due to technology exploitations.

I think the problem is that we are not good managers of trees we cut and also the fact that some of the tree cutting is for international business export.The other thing is that charcoal and firewood is cheap source of energy that we mostly depend on for cooking.But the western countries which are relatively cold use this source of energy for keeping warm.The western consume more of firewood but they just have God management and conservation.

People will not believe but, yes this business started thriving here too, the reason is government failure to provide people required gas to cook, so finally they again started relying in fire wood for their cooking.

In Africa firewood is very widely used as a primary source of fuel mainly for Cooking and making charcoal. Most people also do use the charcoal for cooking and heating too.
