Why would a business ask just one spokesman to address the media?

Although official business policy should attempt to provide for some degree of decision-making flexibility, it should cover a broad variety of routine and non-routine functions in an organization's daily operations. Certain policies are rigid and unbending, as may be the case when speaking with the media. The majority of businesses follow the convention of only allowing one spokesperson to speak to the media.

Not all of them will be able to speak to the media so the best thing is for them to have a spokesperson

It is better to have one spokesperson speak to the media to avoid conflicts of opinions. So that one spokesperson wouldn't be saying one thing and another comes in and says the same thing in a different way and it is being misinterpreted.

That is exactly what I have in mind and the spokesperson should be vibrant enough

Having one spokesperson to address the media is to avoid inconsistency of opinions and confusions. There are situations some companies have representatives from different departments to attend the press conference. This is to ensure that different questions from the media can be answered by the representative with the best knowledge.

It is just the best approach. You don't need to have ambiguity of ideas and media statements. It is bad for PR. That's why one person is allowed to talk on behalf of the organization.

Because that individual do has all the required knowledge regarding any particular thing and this is his job so its better to have one spokes Man of the business rather than so many.

It is also the same thing in politics. Our president needs only one spokeperson to speak for them. There is no opporunity to be confusing in delivering the issues or concerns to the local people.

This is usually to avoid confusion, cause the truth is that having more than one spokesman could lead to confusion amongst not just the company but it could also lead to confusion for the media as well.

A business don't need inconsistency in their words or action. Having one spokesperson to address the media is to avoid inconsistency of opinions and confusions so it is the best move

It is best to have one person address the media so that people would not be confused about the directions the business is taking when two people make differing statements.

Yesh when two different statements is given the people in a workplace or company it becomes confusing to people within and outside so to have only a voice then only one person should speak

Human perspectives are different no matter how much you try to align them. Its best an organization is seen from a single unambiguous perspective than multiple perspectives. That's why one spokesperson is needed.

There was a case where a spokesperson of a popular organization in my home country was asked about the official website of the organizations and he goofed. I later leaarnt that he was not the spokesperson of the organization. That he was hurriedly told to go grant the interview. Those are mistakes that the main spokesperson wouldn't make.
