Disciplinary actions are a must if the workers start showing late and this is frequent, but you don't have the right to deduct salary.

Yes! I will do it but with moderation. If a worker refuse to change, I will have one on one discuss with the worker. I will try to find what is the reason behind the lateness.
It is a good technique to let them realize not to be late next time. If it is becoming habitual, we can just give them write-ups as a warning. If they continue until the third warning, it is a ground for termination.

In some organizations, they manipulate the time book to make sure that the lateness does not reflect. They would never sign the time they arrived. I think it is counter productive to deduct for slight lateness.

If it is something that rarely happens, i do not see a reason to go that far. But if it has become a common habit, then this might help them change.

I have not worked for any company who deducts salary from staff being late. As a matter of fact, not a lot of companies do this in my location. Most companies will warn staff always being late reporting to work and will take this into consideration when assessing a staff's job performance.

I don't like it and have never been a victim but some humans can be very stubborn so it will serve as a punishment for the erring workers and. others will sit up

I don't think it's a good idea to deduct workers salary for coming late though a lot of companies so this but I feel warning is better and if the person doesn't change and it's affecting the company, you can lay the worker off

You have my line of thought. A staff might be unavoidably late once or twice. Deducting that person's salary would be unfair. If it is a perpetual thing, it is fine.

It can only happen when they manually enter the arrival timings of the employees otherwise in most companies here we have an automatic machine where we scan our finger/face and our time is punched in the system.

While most people think that if they deduct a worker salary for coming late that will make them sit up and come early on time but I put it to you that this is not the right thing to do. You do not have to pay the worker the high salary and then you end up deducting the money because of lateness
This will make him perform poorly in business

Some workers can be very unruly so they need to be tamed. but the employer have to pay the worker high salary before thinking of deducting the money because of lateness as punishment

If it is a one time thing then it does not make sense to take such action, but in a situation where the worker is constantly doing it, then i think it would be the right thing to do.

Some companies take pride in deducting staff salary for minor offencese. I have worked in an organization where I was just late for 3 out of 30 days and my salary was deducted even when I came from a very far distance.
