Alphabet fires 12k staff

When the big guns are busy firing employees, what are we expecting the small firms and businesses to do. It is a really pitiable situation because with higher rates of unemployment comes crime.

Is the downsizing a result of technology replacing humans? It's sad when humans are utilized at the onset then being sucked when everything is in place... What would be the role of the government here? What kind of intervention would the government can do? What jobs can human do which cannot be done by machines?

Alphabet Inc., the US business giant and parent company of Google, has just laid off 12k workers. This is another example of tech jobs losing their attraction.

Well, I cannot precisely state Google would be affected over this sack issues. Alphabet must has make provisions for this before embarking in the sack issues. Alphabet is a big tech company that laying off 12k workers from its staff cannot be affected in whatsoever.

12k workers is a very huge figure. Is that not like their global workforce or how many workers do they have in total? I hope they have paid adequate compensation to all the staff affected?

Off late, we have seen a huge downsizing happening in many big companies that are brands in itself. Microsoft, Google, Twitter, Facebook.... The reason was not fair..Even good employees get the burnt due to downsizing. Not sure what agd whom to blame. Loosing a good job is no fun no matter how well you are compensated.

That is why the concept of job security is a mirage for me. Even if you are an employee, you should have a back up plan in case something of this nature happens. So you can hold yourself while waiting for a new job.
