I'm doing freelance work now. I got paid when the job is done. When I was working full time for an employer, I got annual salary increment.

Yes it's important and employers should pay yearly increment taking into account the inflation

Most civil service workers and those from parastatals get a salary raise after 12 months,other even get some bonuses.So this january i did notice a raise fron my netpay.Not all that but still a decent percentage to make some change from my previous budget in a good way.But having a side hustle or multiple streams of income is the way to go.

I complained to my former boss that my transportation cost to come work for him has doubled. He told me he would add something for me. He added NGN1000. That's about $1.5. I promptly left his job.

It really depends on the company that you are working for in my country because in most cases, a lot of people don't have their salary ever increased in where they are working.

I have seen people that have worked in a place for 15 years and their salaries is 15k. At this stage, you should leave qualifications aside and even pay the person well because of the experience.
