It might not just be financial capacity of the organization. It can also be the willingness to pay. I have seen interns in government establishments who never got a dime.

It's a shame and that's how most government departments work. They are usually very greedy to the core.

Interns should be paid because they are contributing significantly to an organization. Though it is true that they are learning and gathering information and knowledge, they should be encouraged by giving them some monetary incentives. Whencam doing my internship, am lucky am working with a very good man, he use to pay me monthly.

I have done internship in about two places I wasn't paid a dime. But I was doing a lot of the job. I believe interns should be paid since we do the job assigned to us too. What do you think?

Definitely as an intern one is supposed to be entitled to some certain amount of payment to be honest with for the job of an intern is more like they are permanent staffs of the organization and one thing that I don't like about the program is that most interns after working really hard during their time there at the end they don't get hired to become permanent staffs and they will not be paid for he good job done there.

Paying the interns is not really a bad idea. When they get paid they would get motivated and work more harder in their studies and we can be in a position to produce better and competent workers.

They did not pay you because they feel your were there to learn. And a student doesn't need to be paid to learn. Some interns even work more than regular staff.

It is always a belief for me that anyone who works in any way, no matter how small it is, deserve to be paid as a means of encouragement.

You described it well. It is sad to say that even volunteers who work in hospitals were not paid. As far as I could remember, they questioned this concern before. I am not sure if they need to be paid.

That's the sad reality of the workplace. I know of a school owner who doesn't employ staff but relies on student teachers because he doesn't have to pay them. Capitalism is the order of the world.
