Speaking of selling books, I am planning to sell my textbooks used during my university days. I will add to my online shop that was started early this year.

I am not aware of other countries but in India, its a great business and very popular and most of the schools have tie-ups with these stores and they redirect the parents to visit a particular store for books and this is how they make good money.

Yes I think this is one of the oldest and most popular business models, used especially by schools. I think it’s a good business for people to start, however one must have good relations or good negotiation skills to negotiate with owners of educational institutions for this business model to succeed.

Earlier on books were not so expensive but these days these books are so expensive and all these schools have made their undertaking with a store from where we can buy books and these store owners make good profit.

Yes this is really true. There’s been a huge increase in price of books nowadays, I think that is due to better quality but also higher profit margins. I think you can find some private book sellers to get your books from or get them second hand for cheaper than the above mentioned stores.

Same here. Some stores have tied up with schools and provide school books to students. Students got the book list from the school and go to designated stores to buy the books. Very lucrative business.

I have some books I used but never thought of selling them. It would be helpful to the buyer and I since we could both solve our needs at lower costs. We don't have an online store for such items here in Nigeria, so I might have to go to the school to sell them.

Whereas in high school we were allowed to purchase books from outside but nowadays they don't allow it. Schools these days are like a business and they want to gain as much profit as they can.

it is unfortunate that education have been degraded to such a state. Now, only few teachers teach for the seek of the profession and love for teaching. Most teachers are into teacher simply to make money and nothing matters again.

With almost everything can be goggled this may no longer be as profitable as it was before. When I was in college I used to sell my textbooks after the semester.

Yes that is a nice strategy, the shop needs to be closer to a school for massive profit and patronage

You would also need to find out what they need most to sell to drive high demand to your business

The business is very profitable when can be conducted near a school. There's availability of the ready market as students will be just be buying books from your bookstore and walk to school with ease

This is very true. I have seen schools that tells their students to buy books from a particular bookstore because the bookstore is being trusted

In Nigeria, students are not interested in school again. So they don't bother to buy books. At best, they google everything they need out. No time to buy textbooks.

This is not entirely true. I am a student and buying of books is compulsory. If you don't buy books you will actually fail the courses.

My mum's friend does this business and I can say that she is one of the most popular bookshop owner in my area. Schools patronize her a lot
