I think Ethereum is more profitable than Bitcoin because it has some big projects behind it.
One of the major things you need to look at whenever you want to invest in your cryptocurrency is the market cap of that cryptocurrency. Bitcoin have higher market cap than ethereum and that is a signal that Ethereum may be more profitable.
Well, Ethereum and Bitcoin both of them could be profitable. However, the main issue with ethereum is that its market is not independent from bitcoin. So, when bitcoin slips, ethereum follows its way as well.
It is not easy to determine which is more profitable because their productivity depends on the individual usage. Secondly, prices is always fluctuating and always in variation that is quite difficult to examine without the help of computer tools.

If it is based on price value and popularity then I would choose Bitcoin over Ethereum but when it comes to what they can be used for in the crypto net then I wiuld eather fo fir Ethereum as it can be used as gas fee to mint NFT and in airdrops which there have been a lot under the Ethereum Network.

About two years ago I did research on Bitcoin and Ethereum based on price history, within a certain period of time Bitcoin was superior in capital gains compared to Ether, but in other times Ether was superior to Bitcoin in capital gains, Capital gains were measured in percentage.
