Praising employees is very good at motivating them for sure. That is why the "employee of the month" award was introduced. It makes employees feel that their efforts are recognized and valued.
You can motivate employees by giving them additional bonus or increase they salary. You can also find a way to appreciate them for their hard work because everyone want people to make them feel good about the good things they did
There are various ways to motivate an employee. You may increase his/her salary or give him/her additional bonus. Other than monetary reward, praise and recognition of a job well done is motivating.
This employee of the month has counter effects on the morale of the staff. Do you consider what would happen to a staff who felt that he or she deserves to be employee of the month but he or she was not chosen by the management.

Yes giving them money is one of the best or if not the most effective but there are times where money is not needed. In most cases a little bit of thank you and as well you appreciation to their efforts matters as well.
You can even motivate employees with fringe benefits like subsidized medical care. Even enhancing staff welfare can motivate employees..
Money is one of the biggest ways that you can use to motivate anybody and I believe that whenever your workers are being committed and dedicated to working for you you should increase their salary once in a while.

I do agree with you. Giving rewards or incentives can boost their drive to work harder than before. I had this tactic when still handling salesmen before.

Giving recognitions is one of the best motivators for the workers to work harder than before. I also experienced this before and it boosted my drive to do better. It was a good way to inspire other co-workers.
