Very true, especially due to the fact that the competition is pretty much, in a single location you could find more than three laundry business there. though most homes have a washing machine, but this business still continues to be pretty lucrative.
Laundry business could be really lucrative and profitable, but I think that it has some relationship with inflation. If inflation is really high in your country, then your business may go down.
I once lived with a dry cleaner and I have to tell you that Saturdays and Sundays are their days. They make 2 times of what they make in a whole week on those two days.
Yes the location matters a lot just like every other business. A laundry business usually does very well in most of these government residential areas. Though some might have Washing machines, they would rather give some of their cloths to a dry cleaner, especially the expensive ones.
Here in the province where I live, laundry businesses are thriving. They are located in high-foot-traffic areas.
