I agree with you. But the truth of the matter is that there is true passive income earning strategy. Every passive income still need constant updating and revision to be able to yield expected gains. YouTube and blogging are partial passive income source.
From the start, it is definitely not a passive source of income but the more videos you put out and the more views you get and the closer you get to YouTube Partner the more of a chance it will be that it will become a passive income. Looking at it broadly, YouTube is indeed passive income. You can take a break for a year from a well established channel and still make considerable income as long as your content remains relevant. The work you need to out in into maintaining it though is not easy. That break you take might cost you a lot.
You know videos that people would love to always watch then you upload them even if they are lifestyle videos but they are videos that people would love to see even in years to come.

Passive income means you earn without ongoing work, however, in order to earn from youtube, you will have to consistently create and publish videos. Passive income doe snot only mean income from investment, if you have published ebook and if your ebooks generate income, that's also a passive income.
The reason why they dumped YouTube as a passive income is because the video you have produced for over 3 years can still be earning some amount of money if it is relevant . This why people call it a passive income idea.
Sometimes it is very hard for me to consider YouTube as a passive income source because you will need to constantly publish videos so that you will not lose your client or your audience. It really needs lots of commitments.
You are right, making a YouTube video with great content needs alot of time and effort so we can not call YouTube earnings as a passive income but some people call it a passive income because you are earning according to views that you get.
