Personally speaking, I am not open to talking about the salary with my co-workers. It is a personal thing to keep and should be in confidential. I used to have colleagues who asked me this. I politely turned them down because it is not a good thing to talk about. If they have concerns like this, they can just talk to the Human Resource personnel about it.

Yes this is something that is meant to be personal. But I feel some times one can speak of some things just to be friends with people around and build a good relationship. Talking about salary may not affect you, so I don't see anything wrong

I am more open than before about my salary, but I only work very part time.
If I had a major job and earn loads of money I think I would be less willing to share.
I was brought up not to share this sort of imformation and I nearly missed out.
I was working my Saturday job, I had a birthday and didn't realise my wage would have gone up (we were all young girls aged 15 to 19). So I was on the same wage for a further six months. I only found this out one day when the other girls were talking how much they got each Saturday, one girl was same age as me and got more. I did then go and ask the lady in charge of the cafe, she went and asked the wages dept (cafe was in a big store) and they had forgot to give me a pay raise. It was nice to get a large amount the following week back dated, but if my mum had not told me to be so closed shut I would have known sooner.

No, I do not think it is appropriate to share salary information with co-workers. This is supposed to be confidential information in the workplace. Only the manager and HR department have such information.

Some people do not like others to know some personal things about him including how much they collect as salary, but for me I really don't see anything bad in it. If I am asked I will also want to know why the person is asking
Well, it is important to know, why the person asking the question curious to know how much my salary is. If I see that the person is not going to use it against me then I can tell him or her
Not all issues on salaries should be confidential. It does not mean you can be talking about your salary issue with anybody. If you have some trusted co-workers that are confidential, you could discus it them. The reason is that, at times, your supervisor might want to capitalized on your ignorance of some benefits and thereby refuse to pay you.
I like that, never thought about that issue

I guess it depends on your job and your co-workers. I know where I live in England, the UK some people are open with their co-workers and discuss their salary with them and others find that they are better off not discussing it and would rather keep it to themselves.
I am quite happy to discuss my salary with my family to a certain extent but if I did have co-workers, it would depend on how much of a relationship I had with them as to whether I told them about my salary or kept it to myself.

that is so important, I think mostly people are just nosy about this sort of thing, more so than they were in the past, perhaps over the years we have got good at hidding it and not telling people, in very old days you had to stand in a line and collect your wages so people would see how much the wage person gave to you
